Why does Cosmo seem to be a very popular choice among Jewish Women?

Seriously, was just thinking of this the other day and my wife couldn’t explain the idea either.

Cosmo the magazine is filled with a lot of ‘shmutz’ if you want to consider it that from a religous perspective in terms of the enviroment in Flatbush. It definately has articles that would be considered risque and that have topics which any single Jewish person is told to avoid altogether. So, the question is, why does it seem popular?

Whenever my wife is at the nail place she sees women wearing it. When I go get the papers from our local store I see women buying it. (mind you women = both single and married) and so on and so on.

Now don’t get me wrong, we don’t think there is anything wrong with the magazine for the most part. We do find that the articles could be informative for the right audiance (but are far too tame or basic for us to read up on) but we are perplexed why Yeshivish/Religious Women in Flatbush think they should read these magazines.

Of course we are also talking about the same group of people who don’t understand that tznius means covering the knees and that you can go to the local library on Ave J and bring home romance novels for fun.

*shrugs*

  1. Hi, not to comment on cosmo,
I guess it can be educational for all us “flatbush women” there are hair and make up tips in there.
But seriously, what is wrong with romance novels.
Lets take a nice jewish girl, who is having a horrible sex life. Instead of looking for it somewhere else, she decides to entertain herself with romance novels. Its not like lots of guys that will go on porn or buy magazines like playboy or penthouse or worse, well I’m not sure whats worse. But next time before you write a comment like that, think a little, that all women in flatbush are cut out from the same cookie cutter and we all have our background like you have yours.
So what may seem wrong for you or you may not understand many of us have a great reason.
sorry to come off so pissed of but that did touch a personal nerve

  2. You are 100%.

I should of specified more clearly.

Women who are a part of the Yeshivish World in Flatbush/NY Area who claim that they are more religious than others and purposely exclude outsiders from being able to enter their world and say shtush is so bad and no tvs and no media at all shouldn’t be reading such things because they are contradicting themselves. Can’t have a magazine or book that has ‘sex’ in it since they have made the same argument with internet and tvs.
