Taking it off at the beach and the idiocy of Jewish parenting

with 3 comments

So we decided that we would discuss this topic.

About the fact that how many Jews go to the beach on a regular basis and take everything off (to their swimsuit but sometimes more) in order to go swimming, get a tan, mingle, etc.

Usually the girls are more to blame on this because they just have to have a good tan (of course we have to wonder how their shidduch dates ignore the fact that they probably got their tan by showing off their skimpy bathing suit at the beach) but men also go to the beach to ogle the girls and also get a tan.

We have to wonder about the idiocy of parents in Brooklyn. I mean how can they be faulted? Where else can you see an 8 year old child go to the store with the family credit card to buy food. Where can you see a 9 year old watching her 2, 4, and 7 year old siblings? Where do you see preteens and teens going wherever they want via subway or bus without parental oversight?

I mean how can they be blamed if their children go to the beach as well? or to clubs? Or to parties? or to anything else that they shouldn’t be going to.

While we can raise our children to the best of our abilities and try to instill within them the sense of right and wrong sometimes we aren’t always there to look over their shoulder and it comes down to what they decide to do.

However you can easily make a decision to ensure that your child will not be going to certain places. You can sit down and talk to them. You can try and find other ways for them to get in the swimming/tanning time they crave. You can even *shock* sit down with them after you know they went to discuss the moral implications without throwing them into their room without supper.

As summer is now here we need to strive to ensure that we try and teach the children right and wrong.

Just, we ask, keep a closer eye on your child this summer. And May Hashem Help you if you let them go upstate for an upstate job unsupervised. We won’t even discuss the horrors we know go on there.

  1. Things aren’t much better in Israel. It is hard to go outside (and certainly not into town or inhabited areas) without seeing more than is good for the soul. At least over here they have separate beaches, so people can get a tan while learning gemara (or whatever women do when they are tanning).
Glad I don’t live in New York!

  2. It’s not healthy to stay under the sun too long anymore, so why don’t frum women/girls get a fake tan with a sunshower like everyone else? If not that, there are many self tanning products.

  3. parents who really care for the Ruchniyos of their kids, should never let them go anywhere without proper supervision. and should always know where their son-daughter is at any given time. that wil avoid lots of trouble
