Stomp your wife’s foot under the chupah to make her submissive???

with 5 comments

Wolfish Musings found somewhere that a Rabbi had stated that the proper halacha was to step on the foot of the wife right after the chupa to ensure she knows ‘who is boss’. Apparently the Rav who gave over this rather important drasha was not booed or chased out, none of the men stood up and told him he was wrong.

I wonder if they were silent out of respect or actually agreed with him.

We both want to be at the chupah when a Husband does that to his new bride. Hope they get it on video!

  1. That is such silly advice. The wife may be forgiving of the misstep, but that in no way means he is boss.

  4. I guess that is what is meant by a “chatan rejoicing OVER the kallah”.

But in all honesty, I think she should kick him in the nuts.

  5. I was at a wedding where this happened, albeit accidentally. The guy was just so nervous, the chuppah very small, and her dress very poofy. Recipe for disaster. Thank G-d, they are married almost 10 years with 4 kids k’ah….so it all worked out.
