Hashem wants to hear his tefilos but the Shul doesn’t want him there unless he wears a jacket

Frum With Questions tells the story of him going to a shul and being told to either wear a jacket or find a new place to daven by the Rav.

Amazing, now you need to pay a cover charge to be able to daven in a frum shul. I understand if someone is being untznius and you feel you cannot daven with such a person there however how does not wearing a jacket have to do with such an idea? Many people do not have minhag of wearing a jacket, a hat, or even both and therefore should not be penalized because they don’t wish to dress up.

It’s a sad world.

  1. maybe the rav was wrong the way he handled it but if the minhag of the shul is to wear a jacket then shouldnt a person joining that shul wear a jacket as that is the minhag of the shul he is joining isnt that the way these things work-minhag hamokom

  2. I’m sorry but you are completely wrong. There is no where that is says in halacha that one needs to dress a certain way to be able to daven with a minyon. If someone has a problem with how a person dresses then too bad…as long as they are tznius and prepared to pray to Hashem no one has the right to tell someone to leave the shul.

The only time you need to follow the minhag of the shul is if you are davening for the amud. People who say otherwise are people who are just adding chumras to the idea of davening to prevent people they do not wish to see in their shul or neighborhood from coming there.

  3. I’m with FB on this one. Since when is a jacket so important that the rav will embarress a yid? Disgusting.

  4. As I posted on that blog, why can’t the shul have a couple of spare jackets hanging in the coatroom with a sign?
