How many of you will walk into a store at the mall and would ignore a Jew you see?

with 6 comments

This comes from one of my blog readers via my email (which is on the right side of the page)

Would you ignore someone you knew if they caught you in a maternity or lingerie store in the mall? (Or if you are not allowed to have a TV/Computer catch you in a software or video store?)

So here is the other question we have. If you answer yes, you would ignore them, then why are you even in the store if you are embarrassed to be seen? Don’t do actions that would cause that to happen…and if you really need to go to that store then why be embarassed?

  1. If they “catch” you in the TV/computer/lingerie store, then wouldn’t they be just as embarassed to be “caught” by you as you were by them?

  2. As for the TV store most stores that sell TV’s sell a lot of other home appliances as well. Maybe someone is in there to buy a new fridge or stove or something. I don’t really know of any stores that only sell TVs.

As for maternity/lingerie store, for a woman I don’t see what the big deal is. If a woman is going to wear undergarments, she has to get there SOMEWHERE. They don’t just magically appear in the closet.

  3. when we said TV store we meant a store that sold things for a tv (movies, dvd players, etc). And yes, since most Yeshivas forbid families from owning a TV being seen in one would be shocking..even if someone just saw you from the outside of the store.

Lingerie…we’re not talking about the BP lingerie stores, we’re talking about victoria secrets, fredericks…the ones that you go to when you want to get something that isnt for every day wear.

  4. Like I said most places that sell TV’s also sell a lot of other stuff. But then again I don’t care if people know I watch TV. we do. WE have a TV in the living room and live in a community where that is viewed as OK.

I do think people spend way too much time trying to look at what everyone else is doing to show that they MUST be doing something wrong. OK so family X has a TV so what. I personally refuse to play that game.

  6. Chcok another one up for the charedi chumras- they should totally make non-Jewish appliance stores and malls for that matter Assur. It gives more business to places like Buzz and keeps the yidden from having too much fun.
